Mini Post Partum Capsule Wardrobe

With my pregnancy nearing the end (maybe by the time you read this, I will have had the baby), I decided to make a small post partum capsule wardrobe. Because I don´t fit into them yet, I´ve used my mannequin as a stand in.

The clothes I was going to make had to be:

  • warm
  • comfortable
  • adapted to weight fluctuations
  • nursing friendly

Solution: STRETCH!

Fall/Winter 2015 Maternity Capsule Wardrobe

I wanted to blog about another wrap dress I made but the weather and a teething 20 month old got in the way for now. So while you eagerly await those pictures, let me tell you about my sewing plans for this Fall/Winter.

My maternity makes were all over the place last time and I’ve ditched them all. There just wasn’t anything special about them and they didn’t coordinate at all. I’ve been meaning to make a capsule wardrobe for ages but so far it’s proven harder than I expected , seeing I like to start from scratch but I don’t want to throw out any of my clothes…

So with almost no maternity clothes left and Fall just around the corner, I’ve decided to do a quick brainstorm on what to make.

Do we tend to overthink our wardrobe?

A few months ago I told you about my wardrobe malfunction/identity crisis. While I’ve managed to feel better about myself and my role as a mother (because, seriously, she’s the cutest baby ever) I haven’t lost any weight and my wardrobe is still a mess. I think the lack of weightloss is due to lack of motivation. Let me explain, I do really want to loose the extra weight but I also really really really really (yes, really) want another baby. Like now! And it seems pointless to loose all the weight now and then just gain it back with … Continue reading Do we tend to overthink our wardrobe?

Wardrobe Architect Week 10

Last week I chose my Capsule Wardrobe and I’m very excited about it. This week we had to choose our Capsule Palette based on the colours we chose in week 6. Before I did that I took a long hard look at my colours and decided to re-divide my colours because I realised that some colours where in the wrong category. Especially the true neutrals. Some nearly neutrals are actually true neutrals and can be used for more than just camis and leggings. Here are the new categories: Choosing my Capsule Palette however wasn’t as easy as I thought it … Continue reading Wardrobe Architect Week 10

Wardrobe Architect Week 9

In week 9 it’s time to review the silhouettes we created in week 4. I have to admit that the ones I created back then aren’t really fit to run around with a baby, nor are they fit to go back to work and they were kind of wintery. After careful consideration I updated them into these 5 silhouettes. This will serve as a base for my Spring/Summer 2014 Capsule Wardrobe. I’m really excited about these. I bought 3 new pairs of jeans two weeks ago (I really needed them and didn’t have time to sew them) and I’ve got … Continue reading Wardrobe Architect Week 9

Wardrobe Architect Week 8

This week was all about hair, make-up and beauty. Not an easy one to think about because what we want is certainly not always what we have time nor the skills for 🙂 Hair: My husband would love me to have Zooey Deschanel hair. And I can’t say I haven’t tried it but since I haven’t got it in me anymore to let it grow out, I’ve had to resort to extensions. But they require so.much.care that I always gave up after a few weeks. Seriously, I’d choose 10 more minutes of sleep over a blow dry anyday. I’ve had … Continue reading Wardrobe Architect Week 8

Wardrobe Architect Week 7

This week was all about prints vs solids. I have a lot of solids in my stash but I find it difficult to sew with them because I’m afraid they’ll make me look boring. That being said, I do need more solids in my wardrobe. So I’ll have to find a way to make them work. I love prints but they are difficult to work into outfits. To avoid problems, I try to stick to prints in dresses and t-shirts/tops to pair with jeans (for now). This is what I’m drawn to lately. They are a mixture of geometric prints, … Continue reading Wardrobe Architect Week 7

The One with the Wardrobe Architect Epiphany!

You guys, I just had THE best idea! Probably due to the fact that it’s 3 am, I just fed the baby and I should be sleeping, but no, I’m wide awake and thinking about sewing! You all know I’m following along in the Colette Wardrobe Series and that the last two weeks she had us pick out our colours and our palette. Well, I was playing around with my colours in Keynote on the iPad (well, the baby needs feeding a lot and when doing so I’ve only got use over one hand and a girl needs to do … Continue reading The One with the Wardrobe Architect Epiphany!

Wardrobe Architect Week 6

Questions for this week: How do I transform my list of colours into a wearable palette? Which colours do I need more of and which do I need less of. Which colours do I consider true neutrals, which are nearly neutrals and which are my accent colours. True neutrals These are the colours I would wear for camis and leggings. Apart from the black and the midnight I wouldn’t wear them as a solid single garment (a sweater, pants, etc) because they are too boring. Nearly neutrals These are the colours I wear on a daily basis and for every … Continue reading Wardrobe Architect Week 6
