The One Where We Got Organised

We had a busy few weeks. The 4 weeks of construction in our house are over and even if we’re nowhere near done, at least we’ve got flooring, ceilings, hot water and a new shower.

We’re living on the top floor of our house now. So things are temporary. My father was here everyday for the past four weeks, working day in, day out. I swear it would have been impossible without him. But now even he has to get back to his regular job and construction will be limited to weekends only.

So while life resumes we need some basic comfort. The kitchen is still a mess. I’m still using the old cabinets but cooking is like camping 🙂 Apart from a few details, the bathroom is finished, so now we don’t have to drive over to my PIL’s house every night to take a shower.

We’re still waiting for the new windows to be put in before we can finish our bedroom and dressing room but we’ve managed to put our clothes and bed in, so that’s a start.

Our living room is improvised, but we have sofas and a tv so everything’s good 🙂
And last but certainly not least, I have a temporary sewing room/office. I’m so happy with it. After a 4 week withdrawal, starting tomorrow I’ll be able to sew again 🙂

So now for some pictures…

PS There are still some boxes to be unpacked, but I’ll do some everyday and by next week I’ll be finished!

    1. I have to say that this is only the temporary sewing space as this room is actually destined to be the nursery. But my sewing room downstairs is still in ruins 🙂

      1. Ah yes. But, how exciting that it will be the nursery! Does it freak you out to hear yourself say that? Or are you getting accustomed to the idea?

      2. I’m really looking forward to decorating the nursery and having the baby. Now that the baby is kicking, it feels far more real than it did before 🙂

  1. Yay – a finished bathroom and a place to sew! Sounds just about perfect. =)

You got a lot finished in 4 weeks! It’s going to be such a wonderful house when you are completely moved in and major construction is over!

  2. I am SO impressed with you! I don’t know how you are handling it all at once – I’m sure it’s hard, but you are getting through somehow! It’ll be such a wonderful place to live when you are done!

    1. You don’t want to know what my BF had to put up with today 🙂 the sewing boxes were to heavy for me to lift so I kept bugging him until he brought them upstairs so I could unpack. I’m not going to bother him for another week, he deserves a break 🙂

  3. I can only imagine how excited you are to be (partly) settled in. My new apartment has been in major renovation works all summer, I move next week and it is still so far from being done 😦 I will be joining the club of living out of boxes and camping for a while!

  4. My parents are getting their kitchen redone so they have been camping it the last few weeks. They have to rinse the dishes with the garden hose, then wash them in a bucket of hot water my mom has to get from the bathroom.
How exciting, moving into a new place. Good luck with everything!

    1. I do have a sink with hot water thankfully, but I haven’t got a stove and half the cabinets aren’t usable because of mold. But it’s better thzn nothing and at least we can keep this ‘kitchen’ until the new kitchen is installed since it will be in another part of the house 🙂

  5. Ziet er veelbelovend uit! Ik zou gillend gek worden in zo’n onaf huis, dus petje af, ook voor al die dingen die je tegelijk ‘maar even’ doet. Knap hoor!
